Itinerary:  Istanbul / Bursa / İznik

 

Day 01: Istanbul / Bursa
Early in the morning with our professional tour guide we will transfer to Bursa for a full day tour to discover the first capital of the Ottoman Empire. We will visit the Green Mosque (Yesil Cami), commissioned by Mehmet I in 1412 and considered one of the finest examples of early Ottoman architecture, and opposite the Green Tomb (Yesil Turbe), the tomb of Sultan Mehmet, and Bursa’s most beautiful building, its interior covered with spectacular tile work by the Masters of Tabriz; the Green Medrese (religious college), and the Muradiye complex, (1421 -51) built in the reign of Murat II it was the last of the imperial mosque complexes to be built in Bursa, the Ulu Cami, built in 1396 -99 by Beyazit I, the Orhan Gazi Cami, built in 1339 it is the oldest of Bursa’s mosques, and the covered Bazaar where the atmosphere of a bustling Ottoman market town can still be captured. Overnight is in Bursa.  
Meal: Breakfast, Dinner

Day 02: Bursa / İznik / Istanbul
Iznik, (ancient Nicaea), with a history going back to the Hellenistic era, the city enjoyed great fame between the 15th -17th centuries as a centre of ceramic production. We visit the Roman Amphitheatre, the church of Haghia Sophia, Iznik’s most important Byzantine monument and the site of two early Church Councils; the Imaret of Nilufer Hatun, now a museum where the collection includes a section devoted to the history of Iznik ceramic production. Lunch in Iznik on own and travel to Istanbul.
